Ls Cable & System Develops 6km Deep Sea Cable
Suspension Clamp, has recently successfully developed an umbilical cable for deep-sea exploration robots.
The umbilical cable is a composite cable consisting of electric and optical cables. It can provide power for remote-controlled deep-sea exploration equipment and enable robot arms, sensors and lenses to start working by transmitting and controlling various signals.
This product needs to adapt to the harsh environment of high water pressure and irregular growth of algae in the deep sea, and has high requirements for design technology. Currently, only a few wire companies have the manufacturing capabilities. The product developed by LS Cable this time can be used in an environment of 6,000 meters deep in the sea, and it is the fourth company in the world to successfully develop it.
As natural resources on land are gradually depleted, countries are competing fiercely for resource development around the deep sea, and the scale of equipment manufacturing for seabed mining is also increasing. It is expected that the demand for umbilical cables and related systems will also increase.
LS Cable President Gu Ji-eun said that the company established a specialized marine cable factory near Donghae Port (South Korea) in 2009, and is continuously strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and equipment in areas such as ultra-high voltage submarine cables and umbilical cables. He also said that he plans to develop various products such as deep-sea oil field drilling umbilical cables.
